As important as productivity is to the continued economic development of the world, it is surprising that so little is known about measuring and managing it. Part of the problem may lie in the unit of analysis industry uses to measure productivity and in a failure to recognize the complexity of the relationships between the productivity of the individual worker and the total performance of the organization. The body of research knowledge provides little help. A multitude of micro studies of individual work behavior exist, but the measure of productivity used is seldom comparable to those developed in industry.
Behaviour, both individual and organisational, is influenced, and almost determined by numerous factors of both abstract and concrete nature; factors such as culture American Anthropological Association, and perception National Research Council of Canada [NRC], This essay particularly aims to show how values affect and influence individual and organisational behaviour. Values are believed to have a substantial influence on the affective and behavioral responses of individuals Locke, The essay shall follow a sequence of subtopics which all add up to the main point. The relevant concepts shall be defined, their importance shall be outlined, the differences in values will be given, and how to apply understanding of the differences in values will finally be expounded upon. Applying Psychology: Individual & Organizational Effectiveness, Sixth (6th)
Organizational psychology is the science of psychology applied to work and organizations. This field of inquiry spans more than a century and covers an increasingly diverse range of topics as the nature of work and organizations continue to evolve. The purpose of this chapter is to provide a concise overview of organizational psychology as a field of inquiry and the topics covered in this handbook, which endeavors to encapsulate key topics of research and application, summarize important research findings, and identify innovative directions for research and practice. The chapter is organized around four sections. First, it begins with a brief overview of the evolution of the concept of work and the changing career model to provide a backdrop to our examination of the psychology of organizations. Second, it describes several dialectic tensions—industrial and organizational psychology, employee well-being and organizational effectiveness, basic and applied science, science and practice activities, and individual and organizational levels—that characterize organizational psychology as an applied, translational science. The tensions are a source of challenges that require a dynamic balance, but they also create important synergies for the field.
