The standard is applicable to providers of storage, distribution and wholesale services for food, packaging and consumer products. The standard sets a new benchmark for quality including:. Certification to the BRCGS standard will demonstrate your management and control of sub contractors used throughout the supply chain. This helps you and your supplier network to adopt the highest standards in food safety and comply with customer requirements. Issue 4, launched on the 2nd November , reflects best practice and facilitate a process of continual improvement through well-designed risk-based product safety management systems. It ensures the quality and safety of products during their storage and distribution throughout the supply chain. Issue 4 of the standard, to be launched in November , has been upgraded to provide supply chain visibility and assurance of industry developments such as e-commerce and cross-docking. The Standard is specifically designed for logistics operations dealing with Food, Packaging, and Consumer Products. It is easy to understand, uses prescriptive language, and applicable for global application. It is fully flexible as operations can implement the full scope, or a scope relevant to their operation e.

BRC Global Standard Issue 3: Storage and Distribution Quick Guide

The goal of the Standard is to ensure that the quality and safety of products during storage and distribution are maintained. Certification is granted when a site demonstrates compliance with all requirements of the Standard during a third-party audit conducted by a BRC approved certification body CB. The BRC ensures confidence in certification by rating approved CBs based on their technical performance and efficiency in customer service.

These elements include, but are not limited to, product specifications, supplier approval, traceability, and the management of incidents, food fraud, food defense and product recalls. These need to be supported by the pre-requisite programs such as cleaning, pest control, waste management and foreign body controls.
